The B21st Street Re-Development Project
On Monday, February 22nd, RDRC welcomed Mayor Bill De Blasio to the Far Rockaway Beach 21st Street Re-Development Project. “Topping Off” Ceremony. In addition to Mayor de Blasio, RDRC President & CEO Kevin Alexander joined by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, NYS State Senator James Sanders, Jr., NYS Assemblyman Khaleel Anderson, Jesse Batus, Senior Project Manager, The Community Builders, NY Economic Development Corporation President James Padgett, HPD Housing Preservation & Development Commissioner Louise Campbell, and Department of Design & Construction Commissioner Lorraine Grillo. The following is an excerpt of the remarks made by Alexander.
“The Beach 21st Street Project is an excellent example of that commitment to change that includes our partnership with the City and leaders such as Rockaways own,
then-City Councilman and now Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, at the community level with our Community Board 14, and a coalition of community and faith-based organizations known as the DFR Working Group.
Ultimately, the collaboration ends where it all begins, with our residents who deservedly will have the opportunity for generations to come, to benefit from the manifestation of the DFR Redevelopment Project that is so much more than an affordable housing project – jobs, careers, new commercial space for local businesses and entrepreneurs, community space for new and existing CBO’s to expand, open spaces to host community events and activities, a world-class library, and beautiful streetscapes supported by weather-resistant and upgraded infrastructure.”
