OUR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME PROGRAM AT BEACH CHANNEL HIGH SCHOOL
The RDRC Out-of-School Time Program (OST) is available to youth
aged 14 to 18, who are interested in after-school programs that
focus on education, arts and culture, community service, leadership
development and entrepreneurship. Funded by the New
York City Department of Youth and Community Development, the
OST Program provides after-school activities to over 180 youth annually.
This progam is for Beach Channel High School students only.
IN-SCHOOL YOUTH PROGRAM
The RDRC In-School Youth Program (ISY) offers a variety of after-school
activities to over 90 high school juniors and seniors annually.
Funded by the
NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, the ISY Program
focus is on after-school job readomess internships, career development
and college preparation. For the 2007-2008 Academic Year, RDRC has
the distinct privilege of having both the Far Rockaway High School
and Beach Channel High Schools valedictorians as participants in
the ISY Program!
The ISY Program also provides participants with two distinct opportunities:
to attend our out-of-state Annual College Tour free of charge and
automatic acceptance into the RDRC Summer Youth Employment Program
described below.
RDRC YOUTH EMPLOYMENT SERVICES PROGRAM
The RDRC Youth Employment Program assists students in the transition
from high school to employment. Funded by the Neighborhood
Development Act, YEP teaches students how to write resumes,
cover and acknowledgement letters, and mock interviewing techniques.
We also provide unpaid internship opportunities for all participants.
SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM
Funded by the NYC
Department of Youth and Community Development, the RDRC Summer
Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides upwards of 800 youth with
job readiness training, financial literacy, health education, college
career exploration and seven weeks of paid employment. Each year,
the RDRC Youth Development Division staff establishes over 150 worksites
for SYEP participants. SYEP worksites include local businesses,
large corporations, health care facilities, community organizations,
governmental agencies and elected officials.
RDRC YOUTH COUNCIL
The RDRC Youth Council provides youth aged 13 to 21 with the opportunity
to interact with their peers, discuss today’s challenges confronting
our youth, civic responsibility, and leadership development. The
Council participates in a number of community and civic minded activities
each year ranging from fundraising for specific causes to voter
registration campaigns.
