OUR FOCUS
RDRC’s Division of Real Estate Development provides both residential housing and commercial revitalization services throughout the Rockaway peninsula. The Division has the capacity and expertise to identify distressed residential properties, provide housing assistance and homeowner counseling services. The Division is also engaged in the acquisition, rehabilitation and construction of commercial, retail and professional office space throughout the Rockaways.

OUR SERVICES

NEIGHBORHOOD PRESERVATION SERVICES
RDRC is committed to preserving the quality of housing throughout the Rockaways. Towards this goal, RDRC has earned multiple designations from Federal, State and City agencies to provide housing counseling and neighborhood preservation services.

Funded by the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal, RDRC is able to promote and preserve housing for low and moderate-income individuals by providing home ownership financial counseling that assist low and moderate income persons in attaining or retaining home ownership by improving their financial capacity. www.dhcr.state.ny.us

Funded by the NYC Department of Housing, Preservation and Development, RDRC is a Neighborhood Preservation Consultant responsible for identifying distressed properties that could result in abandonment. These properties are thoroughly inspected and assessed by our trained housing specialists, and the owner is provided with resources and options to correct the violations.

HOMEBUYERS COUNSELING SERVICES
Certified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, persons in need of housing counseling services are referred to RDRC for advice on buying a home, renting, default, foreclosure, credit issues or reverse mortgages.

FIRST TIME HOMEBUYERS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
The RDRC First Time Homebuyers Certificate Program is a ten hour program consisting of a two-hour orientation followed by four two-hour sessions. The goal of the Program is to simplify the home buying process, by providing our clients with the necessary information to understand the terminology, and to make the right decisions about their home choice and bank products.

FORECLOSURE COUNSELING AND LOSS MITIGATION
Funded by the State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA) and the Office of the Queens Borough President, RDRC has developed a comprehensive approach to educating and assisting clients in navigating the housing and homeownership market post purchase. For persons experiencing difficulties in financially maintaining their home, our Foreclosure Counseling and Loss Mitigation services include: client advocacy; available options to maintain your home; forbearance agreements; and options to consider when you cannot afford to keep your home.

COMMERCIAL REVITALIZATION

FAR ROCKAWAY MAIN STREET PROJECT
Funded by the NYS Housing Trust Fund, the NY Main Street Program funds commercial revitalization projects focused on façade and storefront improvements, building renovations and streetscapes. The program provides up to $10,000 in matching funds for façade and storefront improvements, and up to $50,000 in matching funds for building improvements.

RDRC RENAISSANCE CENTER OFFICE BUILDING PROJECT
The Renaissance Center project involves the acquisition, renovation, and lease-up of a five-story masonry structure located on the main commercial corridor in the Downtown Far Rockaway shopping district. This building is the tallest structure on the commercial strip and has been vacant since 1995. The renovation of this building will hopefully spur other building owners to make significant capital improvements to their properties thus improving the look of the commercial district.

The construction work requires a complete renovation of the structure and will include all new systems and interior layouts. A commercial space will be created on the ground level which will be occupied by a Dunkin Donuts franchise. The second and third floors will be available for professional service businesses and RDRC will relocate its offices to the fourth and fifth floors.
